Fulham consider move for Real Madrid prospect Thiago Pitarch

Fulham are exploring a move for Real Madrid midfielder Thiago Pitarch, who is open to reuniting with former coach Alvaro Arbeloa in the Premier League as uncertainty grows over his first-team prospects in Spain.

The English club have already agreed deals for Real Madrid forwards Gonzalo Garcia and Cesar Palacios, in an arrangement that will see the Spanish side receive 50m euros for 70% of the players’ rights.

Fulham are continuing to monitor other emerging talent at Real Madrid’s Valdebebas training complex and regard Pitarch as their next potential target, according to Spanish newspaper Marca.

However, negotiations for the midfielder remain at an early stage. Fulham are considering several options to strengthen their midfield, including Southampton’s Shea Charles. Southampton are seeking about 30m euros for Charles, who is also attracting interest from other clubs.

Pitarch’s current injury could give Fulham more time to assess the situation and conduct talks without pressure. The player is recovering from a problem with his left knee and is expected to be out for several weeks.

Despite the injury, Fulham have a significant advantage in the negotiations because Pitarch is understood to welcome the possibility of moving to England. He is also keen to work with Arbeloa again and would join former team-mates Gonzalo Garcia and Cesar Palacios at Craven Cottage.

Initial contact has taken place between Pitarch’s representatives and Fulham, with the London club aware that the player’s willingness to make the move could help them reach an agreement.

Pitarch’s position at Real Madrid changed after Arbeloa left the club. Arbeloa had been one of the strongest supporters of the midfielder’s development, and Pitarch had been preparing to work under Jose Mourinho during pre-season.

Real Madrid’s current intention is to retain Pitarch with Castilla. There is no clear plan to promote him permanently to the senior squad, despite the strong finish to his campaign last season.

Pitarch became a regular during the final months of the season and moved ahead of established first-team players including Eduardo Camavinga and Dani Ceballos in the competition for places.

He made 16 appearances for Real Madrid in La Liga and the Champions League, starting several important matches. Those included both legs of the knockout-stage tie against Manchester City and the first leg against Bayern Munich.

With his role under Mourinho still unclear, Pitarch views a move to Fulham positively. A transfer would offer him the chance to establish himself in the Premier League, one of the most prominent stages in world football.

The midfielder is regarded as one of Arbeloa’s most notable discoveries during the former Real Madrid defender’s time in the club’s academy. Arbeloa helped accelerate Pitarch’s progress into the senior set-up, with the player’s current market value estimated at about 20m euros.

Pitarch’s association with Arbeloa began on 18 January 2025, when he made his debut for Real Madrid’s Juvenil A side. On 14 September of the same year, he made his first official appearance for Castilla.

His biggest breakthrough came on 17 February 2026, when Arbeloa handed him his first competitive appearance for Real Madrid’s senior team. That made Pitarch the player to make three significant debuts under the same coach in a period of less than a year.

A possible move to Fulham could now become the next chapter in the relationship between Pitarch and Arbeloa, who played a central role in the midfielder’s rapid rise through the Real Madrid system.
