ZED FC agree deal with Aston Villa to bring back Omar Khedr

ZED FC have completed an agreement with Aston Villa to re-sign former player Omar Khedr.

Khedr, a 20-year-old left winger, is currently with the ZED FC squad at their training camp in Turkey as the club prepare for the new season.

The agreement brings Khedr back to ZED FC after he moved to Aston Villa in the summer of 2024, having first spent a period on trial with the English club.

Khedr began his development in the youth system at Zamalek before joining ZED FC in January 2022. He subsequently moved to Aston Villa after completing a trial period and remained with the club until he reached the age of 18.

The return of Khedr is part of ZED FC’s preparations for a season that will include the club’s first participation in African competition. The team travelled to Turkey under head coach Mohamed Shawky to hold a pre-season camp ahead of the new campaign.

The Egyptian Football Association previously confirmed that ZED FC, who finished as runners-up in the Egyptian Cup, would take part in the Confederation Cup. They will be joined in the competition by Al Ahly, who finished third in the league.

ZED FC have also strengthened their squad with several domestic signings. The club recently announced the arrival of Mohamed Ibrahim, the former National Bank of Egypt, Ceramica Cleopatra and Zamalek player.

They have also signed Mahmoud Oka, a winger from Haras El Hodoud, to add further attacking options to Shawky’s squad.

During their preparations in Turkey, ZED FC recorded a 3-1 victory over Khorfakkan in a friendly match. The game formed part of the club’s build-up to the new season and came as negotiations over Khedr’s return were completed.

Khedr’s initial move to Aston Villa followed his emergence at ZED FC after joining from Zamalek. The young winger is now set to continue his career with the Egyptian club as they prepare for their first African campaign.
