Fabio Nuno turns down offers as he waits for a return to Zamalek

Fabio Nuno says he remains committed to returning to Zamalek despite receiving several offers from clubs and leagues in different countries.

The Portuguese performance analyst ended his work with Zamalek at the conclusion of last season, having helped the club win the Egyptian Premier League under manager Moataz Gamal.

Nuno said he had rejected opportunities elsewhere because he wanted to continue working with the Cairo-based club.

“After the end of last season, I received several offers from clubs and leagues in different countries, but I refused to leave because I was determined to stay at Zamalek,” he told ON Sport.

The analyst said he had not been contacted by Zamalek since learning that Moataz Gamal would continue as head coach. He added that offers had arrived from Morocco, Qatar and Libya, but that his priority remained a return to the Egyptian club.

“After I learned that Moataz Gamal had returned to lead the team, no-one has contacted me so far. I received offers from Morocco, Qatar and Libya, but my ambition was to return to Zamalek,” Nuno said.

Nuno acknowledged that John Edward had left his role at Zamalek and that Moataz Gamal was now in charge of the team. However, he insisted that he would still be ready to resume his duties if the club approached him.

“I know that John Edward has left Zamalek and that Moataz Gamal is currently leading the team, but I am still committed to Zamalek. If any official speaks to me, I will return,” he added.

Waiting for Zamalek decision

Nuno said he had spent two months waiting for clarity over the club’s managerial plans and whether he would have a role under the new arrangement.

“I waited for two months to find out who the new manager would be and whether I would have a role or not. After Moataz Gamal continued, I certainly hope to remain with Zamalek,” he said.

Zamalek recently announced that Gamal would continue as the club’s head coach.

In a separate development, sporting director John Edward departed Zamalek, with the club’s board accepting his resignation.

Nuno confirmed that Fath Union Sport, commonly known as FUS Rabat, was among the clubs to have made him an offer. He said, however, that he would give Zamalek one final opportunity to contact him before considering the alternatives.

“Fath Union Sport in Morocco is among the offers presented to me, but I will wait for Zamalek this week. After that, I will begin studying the other offers I have received,” he concluded.

Nuno’s previous spell with Zamalek came to an end after the club’s title-winning campaign under Gamal, but his comments indicate that he remains hopeful of returning to the coaching staff if the club decides to make contact.
