Chembezi Denis: Malawian defender joins N. Refineries from Al-Nasiriyah FC

Malawi centre-back Chembezi Denis has joined N. Refineries from Al-Nasiriyah FC, completing a move to the Iraqi club on 31 July 2026.

The 28-year-old defender arrives after spending the latter part of the 2025-26 season with Al-Nasiriyah, having moved there from fellow Iraqi side Al-Qasim SC in February. Denis made 11 appearances in the Iraq Stars League during the campaign, playing 990 minutes.

Denis is a right-footed central defender who was born in Zomba, Malawi, and stands 1.8m tall. He has represented his country at international level, while his club career has taken him between Malawi and Iraq.

Before moving to Al-Nasiriyah, Denis spent the 2023-24 season with Al-Qasim. He joined the Iraqi club after leaving South African side Black Leopards, where he had played since October 2022.

His move to Black Leopards followed a spell with Polokwane City, which began in January 2020 after Denis left Malawian club Mighty Wanderers. The transfer to N. Refineries is his latest club change and keeps him in Iraq’s domestic football system.

Denis also recorded seven appearances in South Africa’s Betway Premiership and six in the Nedbank Cup during his career. His current market value is €75,000.

N. Refineries have now completed the signing of Malawi defender Chembezi Denis from Al-Nasiriyah FC.
