Mohammed Al Owais hails Al Hilal reunion as ‘perfect life choice’ after AlUla year

Mohammed Al Owais has described his return to Al Hilal as the best decision he has made in his life and says he prayed for the chance to rejoin the Riyadh club after leaving in search of regular football.

The Al Hilal and Saudi Arabia goalkeeper, 34, will be back with “Al Zaeem” next season after the club confirmed his signing during the current summer transfer window, following a single campaign away at AlUla in the Saudi First Division League (Dawri Yelo).

Speaking on Al Hilal’s official YouTube channel in a conversation with team-mate Kalidou Koulibaly, Al Owais said rejoining the club felt like a natural step for a player of his profile.

“When you are a star in Saudi Arabia, it’s important to join the best team in your country,” he said. “But here we have the best club in Asia, which is Al Hilal, and this is the best decision of my life.”

The Saudi international also opened up on the reasons behind his departure and the process that led to his return.

“I left (in summer 2025) because I was not playing much,” he explained. “But after the World Cup I thought a lot about my future, and I prayed to God that I would come back here again.”

Al Owais added that his ambitions for his second spell at the club are clear. “I hope to have a good season with Al Hilal and to win everything,” he said.

Success in first Al Hilal spell

Al Owais first joined Al Hilal in 2022 from Al Ahli and quickly added major silverware to his CV.

During his initial stint with the club, he helped them secure two Saudi Pro League titles, as well as two triumphs in the King’s Cup (King Cup of Champions) and two Saudi Super Cup wins.

His move to AlUla last season, in the Saudi First Division League, came after he had struggled for consistent game time at Al Hilal, prompting him to seek more minutes elsewhere.

Now, with his return confirmed, Al Owais will aim to re-establish himself in a squad that has become synonymous with domestic and continental success, while looking to add further trophies to an already decorated spell with the Asian powerhouse.
