Rashford bids emotional farewell as Barcelona loan spell comes to an end

Marcus Rashford has confirmed his departure from Barcelona at the end of his loan spell, posting an emotional farewell message to the club’s supporters after helping the team win both La Liga and the Spanish Super Cup.

The England forward announced on his official X account that his time with the Catalan side had formally concluded following the expiry of his loan on 30 June, and that he would now return to Manchester United while his long‐term future is resolved.

Rashford wrote: “انا ممتن للغاية لكل من في برشلونة على جعل فترتي هنا تجربة ايجابية ولا تنسى، لقد استمتعت بكل لحظة، وساحتفظ بالكثير من الذكريات الخاصة معي”.

He added: “اتمنى للنادي ولكل جماهيره كل التوفيق، وان يحققوا كل النجاح في الموسم المقبل”.

The 28-year-old’s message underlined his gratitude to the club, staff and fans, describing his spell at Camp Nou as both “positive” and “unforgettable”, and stressing he would carry “many special memories” with him.

Key role in title-winning season

Rashford joined Barcelona on loan from Manchester United for the 2025-26 campaign and became a regular under the club’s coaching staff across all competitions.

He made 49 appearances in total for Barcelona, scoring 14 goals and providing 12 assists. Among his most notable contributions was a free-kick goal in El Clasico, which proved decisive in securing the league title for the club.

During his season in Spain, Rashford helped Barcelona lift the La Liga trophy as well as the Spanish Super Cup, adding two major honours to his career record.

His exit comes as Barcelona reshape their attacking options ahead of the new season, having completed the signings of Anthony Gordon and Karim Adeyemi during the current summer transfer window.

Future to be decided at Manchester United

With his loan officially over, Rashford is now due to report back to Manchester United for pre-season training while talks continue over his next move.

The forward remains under contract at Old Trafford, and his situation will need to be clarified in the coming weeks, with the possibility of either staying at Manchester United or leaving during the ongoing transfer window.

According to English media reports, Manchester United manager Michael Carrick is open to Rashford remaining at the club for the 2026-27 campaign.

For now, Rashford’s immediate focus will be reintegrating into the United squad, even as speculation persists over whether his successful stint in Spain will lead to renewed competition for his signature before the window closes.
