Ahly turn down Konyaspor bid for Egypt midfielder Emam Ashour

Al Ahly have rejected an offer from Turkish club Konyaspor to sign Egypt international Emam Ashour in the current summer transfer window.

The Cairo giants declined the proposal due to what they consider an insufficient transfer fee from the Super Lig side, FilGoal.com understands.

Konyaspor are believed to have tabled a bid worth $3m for the 28-year-old midfielder, but Ahly are holding out for a higher sum before even considering a sale.

Ashour is under contract with Al Ahly until the summer of 2028, putting the African Champions League holders in a strong position in any negotiations over his future.

Previous Al Ittihad offer also rejected

This is not the first time Ahly have turned down interest in the former Zamalek and Midtjylland player.

Saudi newspaper Arriyadiyah previously reported that Al Ahly rejected an approach from Al Ittihad to sign Ashour in a deal worth $6m, with an additional $4m in wages on offer to the player.

According to that report, Ahly refused to do business at those figures and insisted on securing a larger transfer fee if they were to part with one of their key midfielders.

Celtic interest after World Cup displays

Ashour’s performances at the 2026 World Cup with Egypt have also drawn attention from Europe.

Scottish outlet celtsarehere reported that Celtic manager Martin O’Neill personally enquired about the possibility of signing the Al Ahly midfielder this summer.

The report added that O’Neill, who is assessing several options to strengthen his midfield before the new season, is particularly interested in Ashour as one of the candidates to bolster Celtic’s squad.

International breakthrough on the big stage

Ashour impressed for Egypt at the 2026 World Cup, scoring his first two international goals at the tournament.

He found the net against Belgium with a powerful long-range strike, before adding a second goal with a strong header against Australia.

Those two goals were the first of his international career, having so far made 34 appearances for the Pharaohs.

Established career for club and country

At club level, Ashour has built up significant experience despite being only 28.

He has played 247 matches in his career, scoring 53 goals and providing 37 assists across his spells with Ghazl El Mahalla, Zamalek, Midtjylland and now Al Ahly.

Ashour joined Al Ahly in the summer of 2023 from Danish side Midtjylland, adding further depth and dynamism to the Egyptian champions’ midfield options.

With his long-term contract, strong recent performances and growing overseas interest, Al Ahly are expected to maintain a firm negotiating stance over any future bids for the Egypt international this summer.
