France rebrand national team crest as FFF ushers in new Zidane era

The French Football Federation (FFF) has unveiled a redesigned crest for all national teams, scrapping the familiar hexagon around the iconic cockerel as part of a broader relaunch that also includes the appointment of Zinedine Zidane as men’s head coach.

Revealed on Wednesday, the new logo will appear on the shirts of every France side and is intended to signal the start of “a new sporting cycle” for the national teams. The long‐standing hexagonal frame has been removed so that the cockerel – the historic emblem of France’s teams – now stands alone.

The two stars symbolising France’s men’s World Cup triumphs remain above the crest, while the word “France” has been added beneath the cockerel for the first time as part of the official mark.

Modern look, unified image

In a statement, the FFF said the redesign is driven by a desire to modernise and harmonise the visual identity of its teams across all platforms.

“A travers un nouveau logo, une charte visuelle repensee et un langage graphique commun a l’ensemble de ses selections nationales, la FFF entend accompagner l’entree des Equipes de France dans un nouveau cycle sportif, tout en reaffirmant leur ancrage historique et leur identite commune,” the federation explained.

The federation emphasised that the logo change is one element of a wider update of its visual charter, which will now apply in the same way to every France selection, from the senior men’s and women’s teams to the youth and other national squads.

According to the FFF, the new identity has several clear objectives: to modernise the current look, to make it better suited to digital, marketing and event use, and to establish a consistent graphic framework across all national teams. It is also designed to bring the official Equipes de France logo closer to the cockerel worn on the shirts, in order to create “greater clarity and unity across all platforms of expression”.

Zidane appointment marks start of “new period”

The crest launch follows the confirmation, 24 hours earlier, that Zinedine Zidane has been named head coach of the France men’s national team on a four‐year deal.

“Cette evolution intervient alors que s’ouvre une nouvelle periode pour les selections nationales francaises. Apres avoir annonce la nomination de Zinedine Zidane comme nouveau selectionneur de l’Equipe de France masculine pour les quatre annees a venir, la FFF prepare egalement les prochaines grandes echeances de ses autres selections, au premier rang desquelles la Coupe du monde feminine de la FIFA 2027 au Bresil,” the federation added.

The FFF underlined that the refreshed identity is intended not only to accompany the start of Zidane’s tenure but also to frame the build‐up to major upcoming tournaments for other France sides, most notably the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2027 in Brazil.

By aligning the crest, its typography and its use in media and events, the federation aims to present a single, easily recognisable image for all its national teams while maintaining the longstanding symbolism of the cockerel and France’s World Cup stars.
