Yacine Titraoui rejects Olympiakos approach despite offer to multiply wages tenfold

Algeria midfielder Yacine Titraoui has reportedly turned down a move to Olympiakos that would have seen his salary increased more than tenfold, as he waits for an opportunity in one of Europe’s top five leagues or in the Championship.

The 23-year-old, under contract with Charleroi until June 2027, has emerged as a major target for Olympiakos after an impressive 2025-26 season in Belgium, despite not playing a single minute for Algeria at the 2026 World Cup.

Titraoui made 42 appearances for Charleroi last season, starting 40 matches and contributing five goals and three assists from midfield. His performances prompted sustained interest from Olympiakos, who will contest the Champions League play-offs.

Charleroi reject first bid before player blocks move

According to Belgian journalist Julien Parcinski of DH les Sports +, Olympiakos initially submitted a €7m offer for Titraoui. Charleroi rejected that proposal, having set their valuation at €10m.

The Greek side, often referred to as “Thrylos”, then returned with an improved package worth €8m plus bonuses in an effort to meet Charleroi’s demands and push the deal forward.

However, the transfer stalled not because of Charleroi, but because of the player. The account Paradou Ac Talents reports that Titraoui has refused to join the Super League Ellada, making clear he prefers a move either to a club in one of Europe’s “Big Five” leagues or to a side in England’s second tier, the Championship.

Reported €120,000-a-month salary rejected

In turning down Olympiakos, Titraoui is said to have refused a substantial pay rise. Paradou Ac Talents claims the Algerian international walked away from a proposed salary of €120,000 per month before bonuses, compared with his current wage of around €10,000 per month in Wallonia.

The suggestion that Titraoui declined a contract worth more than ten times his existing earnings is reported to have surprised Olympiakos officials, who believed their financial offer would be decisive.

Titraoui, born in M’Sila, has three senior caps for Algeria. Although he was part of the squad at the 2026 World Cup, he did not feature in any of the matches, yet his club form has ensured he remains in demand on the transfer market.

Pattern of prioritising sporting project

This is not the first time Titraoui has been linked with turning down a lucrative move. Specialist Chebli Ishaq reports that, while still at his boyhood club Paradou, the midfielder previously rejected a highly paid offer from CSKA Moscow.

That decision, together with his stance over Olympiakos, has been highlighted as evidence that Titraoui is prepared to place the sporting project and career progression above financial considerations.

Swansea interest expected

Interest in the player is not limited to Greece. Parcinski indicates that Swansea could soon enter the race for Titraoui’s signature, with the Championship club expected to position themselves on the deal in the near future.

No formal bid from Swansea has yet been reported, and Charleroi’s asking price of €10m remains in place as the Belgian side look to maximise any potential transfer fee for one of their key performers.

For now, Titraoui remains a Charleroi player, having already shown on more than one occasion that he is prepared to wait for what he considers the right move rather than accept the most financially attractive offer.
