Jordan Henderson leaves Brentford by mutual consent amid Chelsea transfer links

Jordan Henderson has had his contract with Brentford terminated by mutual consent, clearing the way for a potential move to Chelsea, according to reports.

Brentford confirmed on Wednesday that the former Liverpool captain had left the club after an agreement was reached to end his deal early.

In a brief statement, the Premier League side said: “Jordan Henderson has left Brentford after an amicable agreement was reached to terminate his contract.”

The club added: “Jordan departs the club and we wish you all the best and success in the future.”

Henderson, 36, had joined Brentford following spells in Saudi Arabia and the Netherlands and was part of England’s squad at the last World Cup.

Chelsea move reported as imminent

Multiple reports in recent hours have suggested Chelsea are now close to securing Henderson’s signature.

Those reports state that the midfielder is open to joining the Stamford Bridge club and is keen to work under head coach Xabi Alonso.

Henderson previously spent more than a decade at Liverpool, where he won the Premier League and Champions League, before leaving Anfield to continue his career abroad.
