Rodri weighs Real Madrid dream as Barcelona and PSG monitor Manchester City midfielder

Rodri, the Manchester City midfielder and Spain captain, has emerged as one of the central figures of the current summer transfer window, with Real Madrid, Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain all tracking his situation ahead of the expiry of his contract in 2027.

Catalan radio outlet Catalunya Radio has reported that Barcelona have made initial enquiries over a possible move for Rodri to Camp Nou, as they look to reshape their midfield options.

Local media in Catalonia say Barcelona’s interest is not simply a response to the injury problems of Netherlands international Frenkie de Jong, but part of a broader plan to strengthen the centre of their team.

Club officials are said to be attracted by Rodri’s profile and attributes, and have sounded out the possibility of a transfer, despite the financial and sporting complexities involved in prising him away from Manchester City.

Real Madrid dream, but Barcelona not ruled out

Catalunya Radio, in comments relayed by French outlet Foot Mercato, added a key detail about the player’s preferences, reporting that Rodri “dreams of representing Real Madrid”.

The same reports stress, though, that this long‐held ambition would not automatically close the door on a move to Barcelona. According to those claims, Rodri would not necessarily reject an offer from Barcelona if a concrete opportunity to join them arose.

There is no indication at this stage that Manchester City are willing to enter formal negotiations, and none of the interested clubs has yet reached an agreement with the Premier League champions.

Long contract complicates any move

Rodri’s deal with Manchester City runs until the summer of 2027, which puts the English club in a strong position ahead of any potential talks and means any transfer would almost certainly require a significant fee.

The midfielder has become a pivotal figure for both club and country, wearing the armband for Spain and anchoring Manchester City’s midfield during a period of sustained domestic and European success.
