Sirino joins Durban City after leaving Kaizer Chiefs ahead of new Betway Premiership season

Uruguayan forward Gaston Sirino has signed for Durban City ahead of the 2026-27 Betway Premiership campaign following his departure from Kaizer Chiefs.

The 35-year-old, who left Chiefs at the end of last season, was officially unveiled as one of eight new arrivals by the reigning Nedbank Cup holders as they look to strengthen their squad for the upcoming campaign.

Sirino joined Chiefs at the start of the 2024-25 season from Mamelodi Sundowns and went on to spend two years at the Soweto club.

Limited role at Chiefs

Despite his pedigree and experience, Sirino found consistent playing time hard to come by under Chiefs’ co-coaches Khalil Ben Youssef and Cedric Kaze during the 2025-26 season.

His lack of regular minutes contributed to the decision to part ways at the conclusion of the previous campaign.

Across his two seasons with the Phefeni Glamour Boys, Sirino made 52 appearances in all competitions, scoring five goals and supplying eight assists.

Durban City, who lifted the Nedbank Cup last term, have moved to reinforce their first-team squad with a significant intake of new signings as they prepare for the new league season.

Squad rebuild at Durban City

In a statement confirming Sirino’s arrival as part of a wider recruitment drive, the club said it had concluded the capture of eight players in total.

“Durban City FC has further strengthened its first-team squad with the addition of eight new players ahead of the 2026/27 Betway Premiership season,” the club stated.

“The players have already linked up with their new teammates in camp and begun training as preparations continue for the new season.”

While the club did not provide further details in the announcement, Sirino’s inclusion among the eight recruits underlines Durban City’s intent to build on last season’s cup success and compete strongly in the league.

The Uruguayan brings extensive experience of South African football after earlier spells at Mamelodi Sundowns and Kaizer Chiefs, and will be expected to add creativity and attacking depth to his new side as they embark on the 2026-27 campaign.
