Al Ahly deny receiving Al Fayha bid for Marwan Attia amid Saudi Pro League interest
Al Ahly have rejected reports that Saudi Arabian club Al Fayha have submitted an official offer to sign midfielder Marwan Attia.
Speculation in recent days suggested Al Fayha had lodged a bid worth $2.5m for the Egypt international, who has been repeatedly linked with a move to the Saudi Pro League.
However, a source at Al Ahly told FilGoal.com that no proposal had been received from the Saudi side for the 27-year-old.
The source said: “لم تصلنا اي عروض من الفيحاء السعودي لضم مروان عطية، كما يتردد” – “We have not received any offers from Al Fayha of Saudi Arabia to sign Marwan Attia, as has been claimed.”
Attia has a long-term contract with Al Ahly running until the summer of 2029, placing the Cairo club in a strong position over any potential negotiations.
Linked with Saudi clubs
Although Al Ahly deny any formal approach from Al Fayha, Attia has been consistently mentioned in connection with a possible move to Saudi Arabia.
In recent reports, Saudi sports daily Arriyadiyah stated that Marwan Attia and Nigeria international Raphael Onyedika are among the midfield options being assessed by Al Ittihad.
The same newspaper had previously reported that Al Ittihad’s hierarchy were considering moves for both Marwan Attia and Imam Ashour, but were waiting for a final technical decision from German coach Jens Vessing before opening formal talks with Al Ahly.
According to those reports, any step towards negotiations with the Egyptian champions hinges on Vessing’s assessment of the squad’s needs and his approval of the targeted players.
World Cup performances draw attention
Interest in Attia has intensified following his displays for Egypt at the 2026 World Cup, where he impressed alongside fellow midfielder Imam Ashour.
The pair’s performances on the global stage have contributed to increased transfer speculation, particularly from clubs in the expanding Saudi Pro League, including Al Ittihad and other sides exploring midfield reinforcements.
Attia’s record and contract situation
Marwan Attia, 27, has made 250 appearances in his career, scoring four goals and providing 11 assists.
His current deal with Al Ahly runs until the end of the 2028-29 season, meaning any club wishing to sign him would need to reach an agreement with the Egyptian side.
For now, Al Ahly insist there has been no contact from Al Fayha, while reports in Saudi Arabia continue to link Attia with Al Ittihad as part of the club’s list of potential midfield signings.
