Kaizer Chiefs consider loan move for goalkeeper Bontle Molefe amid Casric Stars interest

Kaizer Chiefs are weighing up another loan move for goalkeeper Bontle Molefe, with Motsepe Foundation Championship side Casric Stars understood to be keen on signing him for the coming season.

Molefe, who is on the books of Amakhosi, spent the second half of last term on loan at Leicesterford City but struggled to establish himself as a regular starter. Leicesterford coach Stanford Nkoane told Soccer Laduma that the 22-year-old’s progress during his spell there was hampered by injury.

Casric Stars have now emerged as potential suitors as they look to strengthen in goal following the departure of first-choice goalkeeper Wandile Mthombeni.

Casric seek replacement for departed No 1

Mthombeni has left Casric Stars to join Siwelele FC in the Betway Premiership ahead of the new campaign, leaving a vacancy in the number one position at the Mpumalanga-based club.

In response, Casric have been assessing former Baroka FC goalkeeper Kgaogelo Sithole as a possible option, but are also exploring further additions in the position and have identified Molefe as a target for a season-long loan.

Sources indicate that while the club are interested, it is not yet clear whether a deal can be agreed with Chiefs for Molefe to move to Casric for the 2026-27 campaign.

Molefe open to Betway Premiership opportunity

Although Casric Stars compete in the Motsepe Foundation Championship, Soccer Laduma reports that Molefe is open to a move to the Betway Premiership should an opportunity arise.

For now, Chiefs are believed to be considering the best pathway for the young goalkeeper’s development after his injury-affected stint at Leicesterford City, where he was unable to secure consistent game time.

Any agreement with Casric would offer Molefe another chance to gain experience in senior football, though discussions are understood to still be at an exploratory stage.

More loan exits expected at Chiefs

Molefe is not the only player who could leave Naturena on loan before the new season begins. Chiefs are also expected to send out Sifiso Timba and Vicky Mkhawana for the 2026-27 campaign.

Both players featured in the Motsepe Foundation Championship last season, with Timba on loan at Gomora United and Mkhawana at Kruger United. Amakhosi are likely to adopt a similar strategy again as they look to provide regular first-team football for their emerging talents.

Chiefs have not publicly commented on the prospective loans, while Casric Stars have yet to confirm their goalkeeping plans after Mthombeni’s switch to Siwelele FC.
