Vodafone agree £1.35bn Al Ahly sponsorship in four-year deal
Al Ahly have signed a new four-year sponsorship agreement with Vodafone worth 1.35 billion Egyptian pounds.
The contract was formally concluded on Monday at a signing ceremony attended by leading figures from the club, the telecommunications company and Egyptian sport.
Al Ahly president Mahmoud El Khatib represented the Cairo club, alongside Ayman Fathy in his capacity as chairman of Al Ahly’s football company.
On the corporate side, the deal was signed off by Mohamed Yehia Lotfy, chairman of United Sports Company, and Mohamed Abdallah, chief executive officer of Vodafone Egypt.
The event was also attended by Egypt’s Minister of Youth and Sports, Gowhar Nabil, underlining the commercial and symbolic importance of the agreement for one of Africa’s most successful clubs and one of the country’s biggest brands.
The Vodafone sponsorship is valued at 1.35 billion Egyptian pounds over the duration of the four-year term. No further financial breakdown or performance-related elements of the contract were disclosed at the ceremony.
Stadium naming rights to be revealed
As part of the same event, Al Ahly are expected to announce which company has secured the naming rights for the club’s stadium in Sheikh Zayed.
The ground, one of the key infrastructure projects for the club in recent years, is central to Al Ahly’s long-term commercial strategy. The forthcoming naming-rights announcement is seen within the club as a complementary step to the headline Vodafone sponsorship, although the two agreements are separate.
No details were given in advance about the identity of the company set to take the naming rights, the duration of that deal or its financial value. The club plans to confirm the winner of the naming-rights tender during the celebration linked to the Vodafone contract.
Strategic move for club and sponsor
The new sponsorship extends a long-running commercial relationship between Al Ahly and Vodafone Egypt, bringing together the country’s most decorated football institution and one of its leading telecommunications providers.
While officials at the ceremony did not outline specific marketing initiatives, the scale of the deal suggests Vodafone will receive extensive branding and promotional visibility across Al Ahly’s platforms and properties over the next four seasons.
The agreement is expected to cover a broad range of sponsorship assets associated with the club’s first team and wider football operations, managed through Al Ahly’s football company under Ayman Fathy.
By combining a high-value shirt and commercial sponsorship with a separate stadium naming-rights package, Al Ahly aim to consolidate their position at the top of the domestic and regional commercial landscape, while Vodafone look to strengthen their presence among football fans across Egypt.
