Egyptian Premier League 2026-27 draw set for early August in North Coast event

The Egyptian Professional Clubs Association has decided that the draw for the 2026-2027 Egyptian Premier League season will take place within the first 10 days of August, with 8 August emerging as the most likely date.

Sources have indicated to FilGoal.com that the draw ceremony is planned to be held on the North Coast as part of the “Yalla Sahel” initiative, and is scheduled to be staged roughly two weeks before the league campaign gets under way.

The new season of the Egyptian Premier League is due to kick off on 21 August, with 20 clubs taking part in the competition.

New league format confirmed

The league will start with a single round-robin phase, in which all 20 teams face each other once.

At the conclusion of that initial phase, the top six sides will be split into a championship group to compete for the title, while the remaining clubs will form a separate group battling to avoid relegation.

Four teams will be relegated to the second division at the end of the 2026-2027 campaign. They will be replaced by three promoted sides, meaning the top flight will be contested by 19 clubs in the 2027-2028 season.

Diab re-elected unopposed to lead clubs association

Away from the fixture planning, the Egyptian Professional Clubs Association has also completed its internal elections, with Ahmed Diab reappointed as chairman by acclamation, allowing him to continue in his role.

The elections saw the new formation of the association’s board approved without a vote, after the list stood unopposed.

Diab remains as chairman of the board, with membership comprising Ibrahim El Kafrawy, Khaled Refaat and Khaled Shokry. The only change to the line-up is the addition of Mohamed El Khawly, who replaces Sherif Saleh on the board.

The Egyptian Football Association is expected to announce next week the two representatives it will nominate to sit on the board of the Egyptian Professional Clubs Association.
