Barcelona began their pre-season programme with a convincing 4-1 friendly victory over Europa at the Ciutat Esportiva Joan Gamper, with young winger Alex Gonzalez producing a decisive second-half performance that caught the eye of new head coach Hansi Flick.

The Catalan side dominated the match from start to finish, but it was Gonzalez’s introduction after the interval that shifted the game decisively in their favour. Flick opted to include Gonzalez in the first-team pre-season group after his impressive performances at the end of the 2025-26 campaign with Barcelona’s youth sides. Gonzalez joined Barcelona from Damm and was initially integrated into the youth ranks. He made his first appearance under youth coach Pol Planas at the beginning of April and quickly became a regular starter, earning a reputation as one of La Masia’s most exciting wide players.

Ten minutes later, Gonzalez turned scorer. This time the move developed down the opposite wing, with Toni Fernandez supplying an inviting ball across the area that the winger calmly converted to register Barcelona’s fourth goal of the night.

Those two contributions effectively ended the contest, turning what had been a comfortable advantage into an unassailable one. While the result itself was of limited importance in a pre-season context, the manner of Gonzalez’s display provided a significant talking point for Flick and his staff.
