Arsenal weighing move for Real Madrid forward Vinicius Junior – report says

Arsenal are exploring the possibility of signing Brazil forward Vinicius Junior from Real Madrid as they look to strengthen their attack ahead of the new Premier League season, according to The Athletic.

The report says the 26-year-old, who has entered the final year of his contract at the Bernabeu, is regarded within Arsenal as a leading candidate to bolster Mikel Arteta’s forward options after their title-winning campaign. However, the interest is described as being at an early, exploratory stage and there is no guarantee that a transfer will go ahead.

No formal talks have yet taken place between Arsenal, Real Madrid or the player’s representatives, The Athletic adds, but the idea of pursuing Vinicius Junior is understood to have support inside the north London club.

Contract situation and Real Madrid record

Vinicius Junior has one season remaining on his current Real Madrid deal, a situation that has prompted speculation over his future after the Spanish club did not move to extend his contract.

The Brazilian forward enjoyed another prolific campaign last season, scoring 22 goals for Real Madrid in all competitions, although the team finished the year without winning any trophies.

Since joining Real Madrid from Flamengo in 2018, Vinicius Junior has made 375 appearances for the Spanish giants, scoring 128 goals and providing 100 assists in all competitions, underlining his status as one of the club’s key attacking players.

World Cup form

Vinicius Junior also impressed on the international stage at the 2026 World Cup, where he scored four goals in five matches for Brazil.

Despite his contribution, Brazil, coached at the tournament by Carlo Ancelotti, were eliminated in the last 16 by Norway, bringing their campaign to a disappointing early end.

Arsenal’s summer business so far

Arsenal have already been active in the current transfer window as they prepare to defend their Premier League title.

The club have signed Greece international Christos Tzolis and French goalkeeper Illan Meslier, while also triggering the option to make Ecuador defender Piero Hincapie’s move permanent.
