Elyes Achouri: Tunisia winger joins San Diego from Copenhagen on deal to 2029

San Diego have signed Tunisia international Elyes Achouri from FC Copenhagen on a contract running until the summer of 2029.

The 27-year-old winger will complete his move to the Major League Soccer club once his visa is approved and will then be registered as a new player for the Western Conference side.

Achouri has spent the past three seasons with Copenhagen, where he won the Danish league and cup double in the 2024-25 campaign.

He also appeared at the 2026 World Cup, featuring in all three of Tunisia’s matches at the tournament, although he did not register a goal or an assist.

“Excited” San Diego secure European-based international

San Diego sporting director Tyler Habbes welcomed the addition of a player with both European and international pedigree.

“We are excited for Elyes to join San Diego,” Habbes said. “He is a player with experience in European competitions as well as internationally with his national team, and we are confident he will be a strong addition to our group.”

Achouri, who plays primarily as a winger, began to build his reputation in Europe with Estoril in Portugal, where he won the Portuguese Under-23 league title.

He later moved to Denmark, representing Viborg before earning a switch to Copenhagen, one of the country’s leading clubs.

International impact and club honours

Achouri has scored four goals in 33 official appearances for the Tunisia national team.

His performances at club level with Copenhagen included contributing to their domestic success in 2024-25, when they lifted both the Danish Superliga and the Danish Cup.

The Tunisian’s route to MLS follows his experiences in Portugal and Denmark, where he has been exposed to top-flight European football and cup competitions.

San Diego’s current season

San Diego, owned by Egyptian businessman Mohamed Mansour, are in their debut Major League Soccer campaign and currently sit 13th in the Western Conference.

They have collected 17 points from their opening 16 league matches.

The club will hope Achouri’s arrival can strengthen their attacking options as they look to climb the standings in the second half of the season.
