Idrissa Gana Gueye ends seven-season Everton spell after contract runs out

Everton have confirmed that Idrissa Gana Gueye has left the club following the expiry of his contract, bringing to a close a seven-season association with the Senegal midfielder across two separate spells at Goodison Park.

The 36-year-old, who has been capped 135 times by Senegal, departs as a free agent after the Merseyside club chose not to extend his deal. Everton described the defensive midfielder’s contribution as marked by commitment, experience and professionalism.

Gueye returned to Everton in September 2022 after three seasons at Paris Saint-Germain and quickly re-established himself as a senior figure in the dressing room. During this second stint, he made 125 appearances for the club, featuring regularly and becoming an important part of the side coached, according to the original report, by David Moyes.

Club tribute to long-serving midfielder

In an official statement, Everton paid tribute to Gueye, thanking him for his service over the years and highlighting the example he set on and off the pitch. The club underlined his consistency and attitude during his time in a blue shirt.

Across his two spells on Merseyside, Gueye spent a total of seven seasons with Everton. His first period at the club ran from 2013 to 2016, during which he made 108 appearances. Combined with his most recent stint, that took his tally well beyond 200 competitive games for the Toffees.

Now out of contract, Gueye is free to consider offers as he looks for the next challenge in his career. The midfielder, who has long been a mainstay of the Senegal national team, leaves Everton with a reputation as a disciplined, energetic presence at the base of midfield.

His market value is currently estimated at €500,000 by Transfermarkt. During his time at Everton, Gueye earned an annual salary of €4,686,882, equivalent to 3,046,473,300 FCFA, according to the same report.
