Real Madrid step up pursuit of Rodri with long-term offer – reports

Real Madrid have intensified efforts to sign Manchester City midfielder Rodri and are preparing to offer him a contract running until the summer of 2030, according to Sky Sport.

The Spanish club have made the 28-year-old a leading transfer priority after president Florentino Perez reportedly placed the Spain international at the top of his list to strengthen the squad.

Sky Sport reports that Real Madrid have already opened talks with Rodri’s representatives as they attempt to persuade him to return to La Liga.

Long-term deal on the table

The proposed deal would keep Rodri at the Santiago Bernabeu for six years, with Real Madrid aiming to reach an agreement in the current transfer window.

At the same time, Manchester City are said to be pushing to extend the midfielder’s existing contract and retain him beyond his current terms, which run until June 2027.

City remain keen to keep Rodri at the Etihad Stadium, but the prospect of a move back to Spain has become a serious option for the player, according to the same report.

World Cup-winning midfielder

Rodri was a key figure for Spain at the most recent World Cup, where La Roja were crowned world champions after defeating Argentina 1-0 in the final.

The midfielder has been a central part of Spain’s set-up, featuring prominently during their successful campaign on the global stage.

Key figure at Manchester City

Rodri joined Manchester City in the summer of 2019 and has developed into one of the team’s most influential players under Pep Guardiola.

Since arriving from Atletico Madrid, he has made 298 appearances for City in all competitions, scoring 28 goals and providing 32 assists.

During that time, he has been at the heart of City’s midfield, contributing both defensively and in build-up play as the club have enjoyed domestic and European success.

Contract situation
