Ethan Brooks leaves Panserraikos after relegation as midfielder targets next move

South Africa midfielder Ethan Brooks has left Greek side Panserraikos by mutual consent after the club’s relegation, ending his spell in Europe after just one season.

The former AmaZulu player, who signed a two-year deal with Panserraikos, will not see out the remainder of his contract following the team’s drop from the Greek top flight. He made 18 appearances for the club during the 2025-26 campaign.

Panserraikos had been keen to retain the attacking midfielder for the 2026-27 season despite relegation, but both parties have now agreed to terminate the agreement early.

Brooks, 25, is understood to be in advanced stages of securing a new club and is expected to finalise his next destination in the coming weeks, with the current transfer window still open.

Because he is now a free agent, Brooks is not restricted to the transfer deadline and would be eligible to sign for a new team even after the window closes, should negotiations drag on or initial talks fail to produce a deal.

PSL return among options

A move back to the Premier Soccer League has not been ruled out, with all possibilities being weighed up as Brooks and his representatives look for a club that best matches his ambitions for the new season.

The midfielder previously featured in South Africa’s top flight with AmaZulu before making the switch to Greece. His future is now expected to be decided with both domestic and overseas options on the table.

Brooks’ departure from Panserraikos comes at a time when several South African players are reassessing their club situations ahead of the new campaign, with movement anticipated both within the PSL and abroad.

No details have yet emerged regarding which specific clubs are in discussions with Brooks, but indications are that he is unlikely to remain without a team for long given his status and availability on a free transfer.
