Mamelodi Sundowns unveil new PUMA home kit with second CAF Champions League star

Global sportswear brand PUMA and Mamelodi Sundowns Football Club have revealed the club’s new 2026-27 Home kit, the first shirt in Sundowns’ history to carry two stars in recognition of their second CAF Champions League title secured in May 2026.

The design marks a modern return to an iconic look closely associated with the club’s identity, drawing direct inspiration from the strip that appeared on the cover of the inaugural issue of Kick Off magazine in February 1994. While updated for today’s game, the new jersey is intended both as a tribute to that landmark season and as a symbol of Sundowns’ continued progress and ambition.

The traditional colour combination of yellow shirt, blue shorts and white socks is retained, mirroring the club’s kit from 1994. Distinctive details referencing that era include bright red PUMA logos and a fine green stripe running along the collar, while subtle debossed yellow stripes add texture to the body of the shirt.

Tribute to ‘shoeshine and piano’ and club legends

The launch is built around a campaign titled “Shine on Masandawana”, which features a blend of current first-team players, emerging talents and some of the most influential figures in the club’s modern history.

Present-day and rising Mamelodi Sundowns players Grant Kenana, Thapelo Morena, Malibongwe Khoza and Kutlwano Letlhaku front the campaign, alongside club greats whose contributions underpin Sundowns’ domestic and continental success. Among the legends involved is Daniel “Mambush” Mudau, a key member of the 1994 side, as well as Roger Fuetemba and Hlompho Kekana, both of whom captained Sundowns during their first CAF Champions League triumph in 2016, when the club earned its initial star.

The new shirt’s two stars sit above the crest to mark the Pretoria club’s second CAF Champions League crown, clinched in 2026 with the same “shoeshine and piano” playing style that defined Sundowns’ approach in the mid-1990s.

That 1994 team, which went into the season as reigning champions after winning the club’s third league title the previous campaign, showcased the free-flowing “shoeshine and piano” brand of football under the leadership of Mudau. He was supported by a notable cast including Ernest Mtawali, Phil Masinga, Bennet Masinga, Sam Kambule, Zane Moosa, Joel “Fire” Masilela, Joas Magolego, Sizwe Motaung, goalkeeper Mark Anderson and Isaac Shai.

PUMA hails decade-long partnership

Brett Bellinger, PUMA SA Marketing Director, said the new design is intended to honour everyone who has shaped Sundowns’ success during the club’s partnership with the German manufacturer.

“Mamelodi Sundowns and PUMA have formed a formidable team over the past decade and with the new kit we wanted to honour and celebrate all the players who have contributed to the club’s successful legacy,” Bellinger said.

“It is fitting that this Shine on Masandawana kit will be the first to feature a second star marking the club’s latest CAF Champions League win. More evidence that with Masandawana the Sky is the Limit.”

Authentic and replica options for supporters

Supporters will have a choice of two official versions of the new Home shirt: the Authentic match jersey worn by the players and a Replica variant.

The Authentic shirt uses PUMA’s ULTRAWEAVE fabric in an athletic fit tailored for elite performance. ULTRAWEAVE is the company’s ultra-light, precision-woven material designed to allow maximum freedom of movement and to reduce distractions. PUMA’s dryCELL and ThermoAdapt technologies are incorporated to draw sweat away from the skin and help regulate body temperature, with the aim of keeping players dry and comfortable during matches.

The Replica shirt is produced from recycled polyester, offering fans a more accessible version of the design while retaining the key visual elements of the kit.

Mamelodi Sundowns’ new Home shirt will go on sale on 31 July 2026. The Authentic players’ jersey will retail at R2399, while the Replica versions for men and women will be priced at R1299 and the kids’ Replica at R1199.

The kit will be available from PUMA retail stores, PUMA.com, JD Sports, Totalsports, Sportsmans Warehouse and Studio 88.
