Kenneth Ssemakula: Ugandan midfielder agrees free-transfer move to Al Ittihad Alexandria

Ugandan playmaker Kenneth Ssemakula has reached an agreement to join Al Ittihad Alexandria on a free transfer this summer, as the Egyptian Premier League club steps up its rebuild for the new season under coach Hamza El-Gamal.

Al Ittihad have finalised terms with the 23-year-old, who is set to arrive as a free agent after leaving Saudi side Al-Adalah, where he most recently played as an attacking midfielder.

The deal continues an active transfer window for the Alexandria club, who are reshaping their squad while preparations for the upcoming campaign are already under way under El-Gamal’s leadership.

Ssemakula’s career path

Ssemakula, 23, has accumulated experience across several leagues despite his age, having previously represented Club Africain in Tunisia and Al Arabi in Kuwait, as well as Ugandan club Villa Jogoo.

His last spell came with Al-Adalah in Saudi Arabia, and his move to Al Ittihad will mark his first appearance in Egyptian football.

The Ugandan is expected to add creativity in the final third for the side known as “Zaeem Al-Thaghr”, with Al Ittihad targeting greater depth and competition for places in attacking positions.

Busy summer of recruitment

Ssemakula’s arrival will add to a series of new signings made by Al Ittihad Alexandria ahead of the new season.

From Smoha, the club have recruited midfielder Mido Mostafa, while Mohamed Fakhry has joined from Pharco to strengthen options in the middle of the pitch.

In attack, Al Ittihad have secured the services of striker Hossam Hassan from Modern Sport, bolstering their forward line.

Defensively, the squad has also been reshaped. Right-back Moamen Awad has signed from Haras El Hodood, and centre-back Moataz Mohamed has arrived from Al Ahly on a free transfer.

The club have further reinforced their ranks with the addition of Ahmed Hamdi from Zamalek and Ahmed El Arabi from Ghazl El Mahalla, continuing a broad overhaul across all areas of the team.

Building towards the new season

Al Ittihad’s pre-season work is ongoing as El-Gamal puts his team through preparations aimed at improving on last term’s campaign.

The signing of Ssemakula, alongside a string of domestic recruits from Smoha, Pharco, Modern Sport, Haras El Hodood, Al Ahly, Zamalek and Ghazl El Mahalla, underlines the club’s intention to refresh the squad significantly before the league season begins.

The move for Ssemakula, once formally completed, will see him become one of several new faces competing for a place in Al Ittihad’s starting line-up when the new campaign kicks off.
