Coventry City end 25-year league wait with victory over Nottingham Forest

Coventry City secured their first English league win of the season by beating Nottingham Forest 1-0 in the fifth round.

The result was Coventry’s first league victory in 25 years. Their previous success came in April 2001, when they defeated Sunderland.

It was also Frank Lampard’s first league win as Coventry manager, ending a run of four consecutive defeats.

The victory eased the immediate pressure on Lampard, who had been at risk of losing his job if Coventry failed to win this round.

Jay Dasilva scored the only goal of the match in the 55th minute.

The goal was Dasilva’s first for almost five years. His previous goal came on 15 April 2022, when he was playing for Bristol City and scored against Stoke City.

Coventry collected their first three points of the league campaign and moved up to 18th place.

Nottingham Forest remain on five points and are 12th in the table.
