Wadi Degla sign Olympic winger Mohamed Soliman as summer overhaul continues

Wadi Degla have completed the signing of winger Mohamed Soliman from Olympic, making him their second addition of the summer as preparations intensify for the new Egyptian Premier League season.

The 22-year-old, who operates primarily out wide, will be playing top-flight football for the first time and will wear the colours of the “Gazelles” in the upcoming campaign.

After putting pen to paper, Soliman said: “سعيد جدا بالانضمام الى وادي دجلة واتطلع لبدء هذه التجربة الجديدة وتقديم افضل ما لدي مع الفريق”.

The move follows the earlier arrival of Mahmoud Abdel Halim, known as “Halimo”, as Wadi Degla continue to reshape their squad following promotion.

Promotion momentum and squad reshuffle

Wadi Degla secured their return to the Egyptian Premier League last season, finishing top of the relegation play-off group to retain their place among the elite. The club are now aiming to build on that momentum with a blend of new signings and homegrown talent.

As part of that strategy, the club have promoted four players from their youth ranks to the first team. Aser Hany, Mohamed Abdel Karim, Ahmed Hozien and Ahmed Ashraf have all signed professional contracts and will join the senior squad for the coming season.

The squad overhaul has also seen several departures. Hisham Mohamed, Mahmoud Talaat and Hassan Hetab have all left the club, while Croatian midfielder Daniel Misejkich has announced his retirement from football.

Pre-season starts with friendly win

Wadi Degla have already begun their pre-season preparations, opening with a 3-2 friendly victory over Ghazl El Mahalla as head coach Mohamed El Sheikh looks to integrate his new and promoted players.

Last season, in addition to securing their Premier League status, Wadi Degla also impressed in cup competition, finishing third in the Egypt Capital Cup in their first appearance in the tournament under El Sheikh’s management.

The club will now look to Soliman to add pace and creativity on the flanks as they aim for greater stability in the top flight after their return, with further transfer activity still expected before the new campaign kicks off.
