Garnacho joins Aston Villa on season-long loan from Chelsea with obligation to buy

Aston Villa have signed Argentina winger Alejandro Garnacho from Chelsea on a season-long loan that includes a conditional obligation to buy.

The Premier League club confirmed the deal on Thursday, announcing that Garnacho has joined for the 2026-27 campaign after completing a medical and signing his contract.

Villa’s agreement with Chelsea is structured as a loan for one season, with a purchase clause that will automatically become mandatory if specific conditions are met. Neither club has disclosed the nature of those conditions.

Garnacho only moved to Stamford Bridge in the summer of 2025 from Manchester United and is under contract with Chelsea until the summer of 2032, but has now been allowed to depart for regular first-team football.

In a statement on their official website, Aston Villa said: “يسر نادي استون فيلا ان يعلن عن ضم اليخاندرو جارناتشو من تشيلسي على سبيل الاعارة لمدة موسم.” They confirmed that the move is a loan for one season with an option that becomes an obligation if certain terms are fulfilled.

Emery influence on deal

Unai Emery is understood to have played a central role in Villa’s pursuit of Garnacho, having identified the 22-year-old as a priority signing to strengthen his attacking options ahead of the new season.

The Spanish coach was keen to add pace and creativity in wide areas, and Villa moved to secure Garnacho early in the summer window to integrate him into pre-season plans.

Garnacho’s record at Chelsea

Since joining Chelsea from Manchester United in 2025, Garnacho has made 43 appearances for the London club in all competitions.

During that spell he scored eight goals and provided four assists, competing for a place in a crowded forward line at Stamford Bridge.

Despite his long-term contract with Chelsea running until 2032, the club have opted to send him to Villa Park for the coming season, with the possibility that the move becomes permanent if the agreed conditions are triggered.

The transfer keeps Garnacho in the Premier League for a third successive season and offers him the opportunity to establish himself as a regular starter under Emery, while Aston Villa gain a young, international-level attacker as they build towards the new campaign.
