Issa Diop says joining Ipswich Town is the right move for the next stage of his career after completing a permanent transfer from Fulham on a four-year contract.

The experienced Morocco international arrives at Portman Road after four seasons with Fulham, with British media reporting Ipswich paid around £8.5 million to secure the 29-year-old defender’s signature.

Diop believes conversations with the club convinced him that Ipswich was the ideal destination as he prepares for a new chapter in his Premier League career.

World Cup hero adds quality to Ipswich defence

Diop joins Ipswich after enhancing his reputation with Morocco at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, where he featured in five matches and scored against the Netherlands.

His arrival gives Ipswich a proven top-flight defender with significant international pedigree and leadership at the back.

The centre-back made 96 appearances in all competitions for Fulham following his move from West Ham United in 2022, becoming a dependable figure in the club’s defence.

Premier League pedigree arrives at Portman Road

Before his spell at Fulham, Diop enjoyed four successful seasons at West Ham after joining from French side Toulouse in 2018.

He played 121 matches for the Hammers and scored eight goals, establishing himself as an experienced Premier League defender.

Now, with more than 200 appearances in England’s top flight and valuable World Cup experience under his belt, Diop is expected to play a key role as Ipswich strengthen their squad for the upcoming campaign.
