Aïssa Mandi thanks Lille supporters after confirming departure
Aïssa Mandi has brought his two-year spell at Lille to an end, with the Algeria international posting an emotional farewell message to supporters as he prepares for a return to Spanish football.
The 34-year-old central defender will leave the French club after two seasons and is expected to join Levante UD, subject to a medical examination in the coming days.
His departure from Lille has now been confirmed, ending a period in which he established himself as one of the club’s key defensive figures.
Mandi, who was voted Lille’s best player last season by the club’s supporters, used Instagram to thank everyone connected with the club.
His message was met with tributes from teammates and fans, who expressed their appreciation for his contribution during his time in northern France.
“Thank you LOSC! After two wonderful years, it’s time for me to say goodbye! I thoroughly enjoyed playing for this club, alongside an exceptional group of players.
Thank you to my teammates, the staff, everyone who works for the club every day, and of course, the fans for their support.
I wish you all the best for the future and I’ll be your number one supporter in the Champions League next season. Once again, THANK YOU for everything.”
While Mandi has closed this chapter of his club career, there has been no indication that he intends to retire from international football with Algeria.
His departure from Lille marks the end of his second spell in French football following an earlier period with Stade de Reims.
During his time at Lille, the experienced defender made 71 appearances, scored one goal and received 14 yellow cards as well as one red card.
Although his performances for Algeria have drawn mixed reactions, Mandi enjoyed a productive period at club level with Lille.
His displays earned him recognition from supporters, who voted him the club’s outstanding player last season.
The contrast between his form for club and country has been notable. During his time with Lille, Mandi featured in a defensive system that allowed him to produce consistent performances.
By comparison, his displays for Algeria at the 2026 FIFA World Cup came in a two-man central defence alongside Ramy Bensebaïni.
As Mandi prepares for the next stage of his career in Spain, he leaves Lille with the appreciation of the club’s supporters and teammates after two seasons in which he became an important part of the squad.
