Kwame Bonsu: Ghana midfielder joins Al-Shabab SC from Al-Jandal

Ghanaian defensive midfielder Kwame Bonsu has joined Omani side Al-Shabab SC from Saudi First Division League club Al-Jandal. The 31-year-old moves to the Jindal League outfit after a season in Saudi Arabia, adding extensive top-flight and continental experience to the Muscat-based club’s midfield options.

Bonsu has signed a deal running until 31 May 2027, tying him to Al-Shabab SC for the next campaign and beyond. The right-footed midfielder, who stands at 1.82m, specialises in the holding role and is expected to operate at the base of midfield for his new team.

He arrives in Oman after a spell with Al-Jandal, whom he joined in August 2025 following a free transfer from Al-Ain in the United Arab Emirates. That move came on the back of a busy period in the Gulf region, with the Ghanaian featuring in both the UAE Pro League and Iraq Stars League system through stints at Al-Bataeh CSC and Naft Al-Basra.

Earlier in his career, Bonsu built a solid reputation in Scandinavia, making more than 80 appearances across the Swedish Allsvenskan and Superettan for Mjallby AIF and Gefle. He later returned to Africa, where he won the Tunisian league title and Tunisian Super Cup with Esperance Tunis in 2019-20 and 2020 respectively, and also featured in both the CAF Champions League and CAF Confederation Cup.

Bonsu’s switch from Al-Jandal to Al-Shabab SC is a permanent move and takes effect immediately from 17 July 2026, with his contract in Oman set to run until the end of May 2027.
