Former Tunisia head coach Sabri Lamouchi says Morocco’s remarkable investment in football has transformed the Atlas Lions into the preferred destination for dual-national players, insisting they now choose the North African nation because of its ambitious sporting vision rather than as a fallback option.

The ex-Tunisia boss believes Morocco have overtaken every other African country in football development through sustained investment in infrastructure, youth academies and player development.

Morocco’s rise sets new standard in Africa

Lamouchi said Morocco’s progress over the past two decades has been significant enough to make the country the continent’s leading football model.

“To be completely honest, 20 years ago we were ahead of Morocco,” Lamouchi said during a media interview.

“Today, Morocco has not only overtaken Tunisia, but has moved ahead of every African country in investment, infrastructure, academies and attention given to young players.”

Dual-national players drawn by long-term vision

According to Lamouchi, Morocco’s development has fundamentally changed the way players eligible to represent more than one nation view the Atlas Lions.

He believes dual-national footballers are now committing to Morocco because they are convinced by the country’s long-term football project and share its ambitions.

“That is what makes dual-national players choose Morocco today,” he said.

“They are not going there as a second or forced option. They fully understand that Morocco’s project is ambitious and matches their aspirations.”

Success on and off the pitch

Morocco have enjoyed increasing success in persuading Europe-born players to represent the Atlas Lions, with improved training facilities, a structured youth development system and the national team’s growing competitiveness strengthening their appeal.

The country’s impressive performances at recent major international tournaments have further enhanced its reputation, making Morocco an increasingly attractive destination for young dual-national players weighing up their international futures.
