Manchester City intensify pursuit of Morocco midfielder Ayyoub Bouaddi
Manchester City are stepping up their pursuit of Morocco international Ayyoub Bouaddi, with the Premier League club reportedly increasing efforts to sign the highly-rated Lille midfielder during the summer transfer window.
The 18-year-old has emerged as one of City’s leading transfer targets after impressing for both club and country, with reports indicating the English champions are confident an agreement can be reached despite Lille valuing the teenager at around $100 million.
World Cup displays boost City’s interest
Bouaddi’s stock rose significantly following his performances at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, where he established himself as a key figure in Morocco’s midfield.
The youngster started five of the Atlas Lions’ six matches as the African side reached the quarter-finals, further enhancing his growing reputation as one of Europe’s brightest young talents.
City had previously explored a deal that would have allowed Bouaddi to remain at Lille on loan for another season. However, the club’s plans have now changed, with the midfielder viewed as a player capable of making an immediate impact in the first team.
Maresca keen to add youngster to new-look squad
The move comes as Manchester City begin a new era under manager Enzo Maresca, who was appointed in June on a contract running until 2029.
Reports suggest the Italian coach wants Bouaddi integrated straight into his squad as part of the club’s rebuilding project, while sporting director Hugo Viana is understood to be a strong admirer of the midfielder’s technical quality, tactical intelligence and physical attributes.
Europe’s elite also monitoring Bouaddi
Manchester City face competition for the Morocco international’s signature, with Arsenal, Manchester United and Paris Saint-Germain all reported to be keeping close tabs on his situation. Several other leading European clubs have also been linked with the Lille midfielder.
Despite being only 18, Bouaddi has already made more than 90 senior appearances for the French club, underlining his rapid development and cementing his status as one of the continent’s most promising young midfielders.
Although no formal agreement has been reached, City’s willingness to bring Bouaddi directly into the first team rather than leave him at Lille for another season could strengthen their position in the race for one of Africa’s most exciting emerging talents.
