Abud Omar returns to Tusker after golden Police FC spell as Brewers launch title push

Harambee Stars defender Abud Omar has completed a sentimental return to Tusker FC, 11 years after leaving the Brewers, as the club strengthens its squad ahead of the new season.

The experienced left-back rejoins Tusker after a highly successful three-year stint with Kenya Police FC, where he established himself as one of the most influential defenders in the country.

His arrival represents a major statement from the Brewers, who are determined to build a squad capable of competing for domestic honours and making a strong impression on the continental stage.

Omar brings with him a wealth of experience, leadership and a winning mentality that could prove crucial as Tusker look to improve their defensive stability and challenge for trophies.

Defender leaves Police FC as a champion

The 2025/26 season ended in spectacular fashion for Omar, who collected several individual awards after playing a central role in Kenya Police FC’s historic campaign.

The defender was named the club’s MVP, crowned the league’s top defender and also claimed the best goal award, underlining his influence at both ends of the pitch.

Beyond personal recognition, Omar was a key figure in Police FC’s rise to the top of Kenyan football, helping the Law Enforcers secure their first-ever SportPesa Premier League title as well as Mozzart Bet Cup success.

Reflecting on his departure, Omar described his time at Police FC as one of the most memorable chapters of his career.

“It’s with a heavy heart that I bid farewell to one of the most amazing teams I’ve ever had the privilege to play for in Kenya. Three unforgettable years, countless memories, incredible teammates, and trophies we proudly won together,” Omar said.

The defender admitted his spell with Police FC shaped him beyond football, while leaving the door open for a possible reunion in the future.

“Every moment has shaped me, both as a footballer and as a person. As every chapter comes to an end, it’s time for us to part ways. This isn’t goodbye—it’s simply ‘see you again.’”

Tusker land an experienced campaigner

Omar’s return to Tusker adds another significant chapter to a career that has taken him across several leagues in Europe.

The Mombasa-born defender first played for the Brewers between 2013 and 2015 before moving abroad, where he became the first Kenyan to feature in Bulgaria’s top division.

He went on to represent clubs in Greece, Belgium and Romania, including Slavia Sofia, Cercle Brugge, Sepsi OSK, Ionikos and AEL Larissa.

At international level, Omar has been a trusted figure for Harambee Stars since making his debut in 2012 and has often carried leadership responsibilities, including captaining the national team.
