Somalia FA president Ali Abdi Mohamed arrives in USA for FIFA meetings ahead of World Cup finale

Somalia Football Federation (SFF) President Ali Abdi Mohamed has arrived in the United States after receiving an official invitation from FIFA to participate in a series of football-related activities surrounding the final stages of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The Somali FA chief, who also serves as Vice President of the Council of East and Central African Football Associations (CECAFA), will join other football association presidents from around the world for FIFA meetings and engagements ahead of the World Cup semi-finals and final.

Ali Abdi Mohamed’s presence in the United States provides an opportunity for Somalia’s football leadership to strengthen its relationship with FIFA and engage in discussions on the future development of the sport, alongside key decision-makers from the global football community.

His arrival comes shortly after a controversy involving Somalia’s leading referee Omar Artan, who was reportedly denied entry into the United States by immigration officials before the start of the tournament.

The incident sparked discussions within African football circles, with concerns raised over the challenges faced by officials and representatives travelling for international competitions.

Despite the setback involving Artan, Somalia’s football leadership remains represented at the highest level through Ali Abdi Mohamed’s participation in FIFA’s World Cup activities.

The FIFA meetings are expected to focus on several areas, including football development, governance, and strengthening cooperation between the world governing body and national associations as global football continues to expand.
