Sepp Blatter, the FIFA President, has refrained from directly addressing the recent revelations by “The Guardian” regarding the working conditions of immigrant workers in Doha, Qatar. In response to the issue, Blatter stated on his Twitter account that FIFA “cannot interfere with a country’s labor law legislation but cannot ignore it either.”
Qatar, in response to the allegations made by the British newspaper, has denied the reported facts, asserting that certain figures are “exaggerated.” According to Narinra Bad, the coordinator of the Nepalese community in the Middle East, in the entirety of 2012, there were 276 deaths among Nepalis in Qatar, with 55 of them, or twenty percent, occurring at their places of work. The situation has raised concerns about the working conditions and treatment of immigrant workers in Qatar as the country prepares for the FIFA World Cup.
