No official CAS verdict issued on Morocco-Senegal 2025 AFCON final
A document circulating widely on social media claiming that the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) has overturned the result of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations final and awarded the title to Senegal is false, with no official ruling yet issued in the case.
The document, presented as an official CAS decision, alleges that Senegal successfully appealed the outcome of the 2025 AFCON final, resulting in Morocco being stripped of the continental crown.
However, checks have revealed that the document is not authentic and does not represent an official decision from the Lausanne-based court.
One of the clearest indications that the document is fake is the case reference it contains.
The viral ruling cites case number CAS 2026/A/10857, but the appeal lodged by the Senegalese Football Federation (FSF) was officially registered under a different reference, CAS 2026/A/12295.
The discrepancy immediately raises doubts about the document’s credibility and undermines its claim of being an official ruling from the Court of Arbitration for Sport.
Another important factor is that CAS has not yet published any decision regarding Senegal’s appeal. When a verdict is eventually reached, the court is expected to release an official statement through its established communication channels.
The format of the circulating document also differs significantly from the structure typically used by CAS.
Official rulings from the court are generally detailed legal documents running over several pages. They usually include a comprehensive summary of the facts, the arguments presented by each party, the legal analysis carried out by the arbitration panel and the reasons supporting the final decision.
By contrast, the document shared online consists of only a single page and contains none of the detailed legal reasoning expected in a genuine CAS ruling.
Its presentation has also attracted scrutiny. The document combines English and Arabic on the same page in a manner that does not reflect the standard format normally used by the Court of Arbitration for Sport.
Although the document features a logo, an official-looking stamp and signatures, those visual elements alone do not verify its authenticity and can be reproduced with relative ease.
The appeal concerning the 2025 AFCON final therefore remains unresolved.
The Senegalese Football Federation’s case is still before the Court of Arbitration for Sport, and no official judgment has been announced.
Until CAS publishes its decision, any reports claiming that Senegal have been declared champions or that Morocco have been stripped of the title should be treated with caution.
At present, the document circulating across social media falsely claiming to be the court’s verdict has been confirmed to be fake.
