Nigeria star Toni Payne joins Inter Milan on three-year deal after Everton exit
Nigerian international Toni Payne has officially completed a move to Italian giants Inter Milan after ending her spell with English Women’s Super League side Everton Women.
The Serie A Feminine outfit confirmed the signing on Saturday, announcing that the Super Falcons midfielder has agreed to a contract that will keep her at the club until June 30, 2028.
Payne’s arrival marks another major step in her highly successful career and represents Inter Milan’s continued ambition to strengthen their squad with experienced international players ahead of the new season.
“Internazionale Milano announces the arrival of Antionette Oyedupe ‘Toni’ Payne at the Nerazzurri. The Nigerian striker, born in 1995, has signed a contract with the Club until June 30, 2028,” the club stated.
The 29-year-old joins Inter after making a strong impression during her time in English football, where she showcased her technical ability, creativity and attacking intelligence.
Although primarily known as an attacking midfielder, Payne has the versatility to operate in several positions across the frontline, making her a valuable addition for a team looking for tactical flexibility.
Her ability to carry the ball, create opportunities, link up with teammates and contribute in the final third has made her one of Nigeria’s most important players on the international stage.
Payne’s move to Italy also comes at an important moment in her national team career. She remains a key figure for the Nigeria women’s national football team and has been included in the Super Falcons’ 25-player squad for the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).
The tournament will provide another opportunity for Payne to demonstrate her quality at continental level as Nigeria aim to compete for another major title.
Having represented Nigeria with distinction, Payne has become recognised as one of the most technically gifted players in the Super Falcons setup. Her experience from playing in some of Europe’s most competitive leagues is expected to be valuable both for club and country.
For Inter Milan, the signing reflects their desire to build a stronger and more competitive squad in Italian women’s football. The club believes Payne’s experience, leadership and attacking qualities can help them achieve their ambitions in the coming seasons.
The Nigerian star will now begin a new chapter in Italy, where she will look to make an immediate impact in Serie A Feminine and continue her impressive career at the highest level of women’s football.
With a long-term contract secured until 2028, both Payne and Inter Milan will be hoping this partnership delivers success on the domestic and European stage.
