Teenager dies during France World Cup celebrations after victory over Morocco
A 17-year-old girl has died after falling from a truck during celebrations following France’s 2-0 victory over Morocco in the quarter-finals of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, emergency services have confirmed.
The fatal accident occurred as thousands of supporters celebrated France’s progress to the semi-finals after defeating the Atlas Lions, with festivities taking place across the country.
Celebration ends in tragedy
According to emergency services, the teenager was travelling on a truck near the northern French city of Maubeuge when she fell from the vehicle and was run over.
She was pronounced dead at the scene.
Authorities said the truck driver was taken into custody as part of the investigation into the incident.
Another teenager who witnessed the accident was transported to hospital after suffering shock.
