Benin-Ivorian defender Koble Yao joins Finnish club SJK Seinäjoki
Finnish top-flight side SJK Seinäjoki have confirmed the signing of promising left-back Koble Yao from Beninese club ASPAC FC, handing the young defender his first move to European football.
The announcement was made through the club’s official social media platforms, with the 19-year-old agreeing to a three-year contract covering the 2026 to 2028 seasons. The agreement also includes an option that could extend his stay until 2029.
Yao arrives after developing at ASPAC FC in Benin’s top division and is expected to continue his progression in Finland, where he will take on a new challenge in Scandinavian football.
Born on 7 August 2006 in Ivory Coast to an Ivorian father and a Beninese mother, the defender is eligible through both national backgrounds. Standing at 1.82 metres, he is naturally left-footed and primarily operates as a left-back.
Beyond his defensive responsibilities, Yao has earned recognition for his willingness to contribute in attack. His pace allows him to move quickly along the flank, while his defensive awareness and work rate have helped establish him as a reliable option on the left side.
Those qualities have shaped his reputation as a modern full-back capable of balancing defensive duties with attacking support, characteristics that are considered important in the fast-paced style of football played in Finland.
The transfer was completed without a transfer fee. However, both clubs reached an agreement that includes a percentage of any future capital gains should the player be transferred again later in his career.
Although the deal had been expected earlier, its completion was delayed by administrative procedures. Reports indicate that work permit formalities were among the final issues that needed to be resolved before the move could be officially confirmed.
With those requirements now fulfilled, Yao can begin preparing for life with SJK Seinäjoki as he adapts to a new league and football environment.
The transfer represents an important milestone in the young defender’s career, providing him with an opportunity to continue his development in Europe while taking the next step after his time with ASPAC FC.
The long-term nature of the contract also reflects SJK Seinäjoki’s confidence in his potential as they look to develop one of African football’s emerging defensive talents.
