Emile Witbooi: Orlando Pirates linked with move for Cape Town City teenager

South African attacking midfielder Emile Witbooi of Cape Town City has been linked with a move to fellow Betway Premiership side Orlando Pirates.

The 17-year-old, who wears the number 50 shirt for City, is regarded as an emerging talent in an advanced midfield role and has already made the step up from the clubs reserve set-up. Pirates interest comes as they assess options to add creativity between the lines ahead of the new campaign.

Witbooi only joined Cape Town Citys first team in August 2024 after impressing for the reserves earlier that year, having arrived from the Transnet School of Excellence in January 2024. His rapid rise through the domestic pathway has underlined his potential within South African football circles.

Born in Kimberly in the Northern Cape on 28 August 2008, Witbooi stands at 1.62m and operates primarily as an attacking midfielder. His development has been reflected in a previous estimated market value of 50,000 during his time with Cape Town City, with his situation now attracting interest from one of the countrys most prominent clubs.

The rumour remains at an early stage, with Orlando Pirates monitoring Witboois progress while he continues his career at Cape Town City.
