Sambou Soumano closes in on four-year Reims transfer

Senegalese striker Sambou Soumano is on the verge of becoming a Reims player after successfully completing his medical examination, with the Ligue 1 club expected to finalise his signing in the coming days.

The 25-year-old, who became a free agent after leaving FC Lorient, is now close to beginning a new chapter in French football.

According to Footmercato, Soumano has already travelled to the Reims area to complete the remaining formalities of the transfer and is expected to sign a four-year contract once the final administrative steps are completed.

The move would see the Senegal international remain in Ligue 1 after the end of his spell at Lorient, where he featured regularly during the 2025/26 campaign.

Unless there is an unexpected development, Reims are set to confirm his arrival as one of their latest additions ahead of the new season.

Soumano heads to Reims after contributing four goals and two assists in 31 Ligue 1 appearances last season. Those performances convinced the Champagne-based club to strengthen their attacking options with the Dakar-born forward.

The striker began his football journey at the Youth Elite Foot academy in Dakar before moving to France to continue his development. His professional career has included spells with Châteaubriant and Pau before earning a move to Lorient.

During his time with Lorient, Soumano also gained valuable experience through loan spells at Eupen in Belgium, as well as French clubs Rodez and Quevilly-Rouen.

Those opportunities helped him accumulate experience across different competitions before returning to establish himself in Lorient’s first-team squad.

The proposed move to Reims represents another important milestone in the Senegalese forward’s career. At just 25 years of age, the transfer will make Reims the seventh club he has represented since beginning his professional journey.

For Reims, Soumano’s arrival is expected to provide additional depth in attack as the club prepares for the new Ligue 1 season. His experience in the French top flight, combined with the versatility gained throughout his career, offers the club another option in the final third.

Having already passed his medical examination, only the final contractual formalities remain before the deal is officially completed.

If everything proceeds as expected, Sambou Soumano will soon be unveiled as a Reims player on a four-year contract, marking the next stage of the Senegalese striker’s career in French football.
