Yuran Fernandes: Persebaya Sign Cape Verde Centre-Back on Free Transfer from PSM Makassar

Persebaya Surabaya have completed the signing of Cape Verde defender Yuran Fernandes from Liga 1 rivals PSM Makassar on a free transfer. The 31-year-old centre-back joins the Surabaya club with a current market value of 375,000.

Fernandes, a 1.98m left-footed central defender, moves within Indonesias top flight after four years with PSM Makassar. His switch to Persebaya is registered for the 2026-27 season, strengthening their options in the heart of defence with an experienced, physically imposing presence.

Born in Sal-Rei, Cape Verde, on 19 October 1994, Fernandes has built a career that combines European and Asian experience. Before arriving in Indonesia in June 2022, he spent several seasons in Portugal, representing clubs including SC Uniao Torreense, CF Estrela Amadora and CD Pinhalnovense.

His market value rose steadily during his time at PSM Makassar, climbing from 175,000 in 2022 to a peak of 400,000 in 2024 and 2025, before settling at 375,000 in May 2026. The move therefore brings Persebaya a defender whose valuation has remained consistently high through his late 20s and early 30s.

Fernandes primarily operates as a centre-back and offers a left-footed option in a key position, combined with notable height that adds aerial strength at the back. His arrival follows a long spell in Portuguese football earlier in his career, where he featured for several clubs in the countrys league system before making the switch to Indonesia.

With this transfer, Persebaya add an established Liga 1 defender with substantial top-flight and European experience to their squad.
