Hervé Renard quits Tunisia job just 18 days after World Cup appointment
Hervé Renard has resigned as Tunisia head coach less than three weeks after taking charge during the 2026 World Cup.
The 57-year-old confirmed his departure in a social media post on Saturday night, bringing a sudden end to a brief spell in charge that began on June 16 following the dismissal of Sabri Lamouchi.
Renard’s exit comes after Tunisia endured a winless group-stage campaign in Group F, losing all three matches and finishing bottom of the group.
Lamouchi was initially sacked after a heavy 5-1 defeat to Sweden in Tunisia’s opening game, but results failed to improve under his successor.
Tunisia subsequently lost 4-0 to Japan and 3-1 to the Netherlands to exit the tournament without a point.
In his farewell message, Renard thanked the Tunisian Football Federation for the opportunity and described the experience as an honour, while wishing the team success for the future.
“It was an honour to wear Tunisia’s colours and to live this unforgettable experience.
“I wish this Tunisian team the best for the future.
“I am convinced that it will continue to grow, to thrill an entire nation, and to write brilliant chapters in its history.
“Thank you to everyone who accompanied me throughout this journey.
“I wish you great success in the future. My journey is coming to an end.”
He added that he believed the team would continue to develop and “write brilliant chapters in its history”, before concluding: “My journey is coming to an end.”
