Basel linked with Morocco striker Tawfik Bentayeb of Union Touarga in 8m-rated move

Moroccan centre-forward Tawfik Bentayeb of Union Touarga is being linked with a move to Swiss Super League side Basel, with the 24-year-olds situation in Morocco attracting attention amid an 8.00m (6.8m) market valuation.

The Casablanca-born striker, who stands at 1.80m and is left-footed, is currently registered with Union Touarga, from whom he is rumoured to be a potential departure this summer. Transfermarkt lists no fixed contract expiry date for Bentayeb at the Botola Pro club, a factor that has helped fuel speculation over whether he could become available or move on under favourable conditions rather than as a classic free agent. The probability of a deal has not been specified, with the move currently rated simply as ? on the rumour listings.

Bentayebs rise has been notable over the past four years. Graduating from the Mohammed VI Football Academy, he joined Union Touarga in September 2021 and has since experienced a rapid increase in his valuation, from 25,000 in November 2022 to the current 8.00m last updated in May 2026 while on the books of French side ESTAC Troyes. That progression has included two loan spells in France, first with Rodez AF and then with Troyes, before he returned to Union Touarga at the end of June 2026 following the conclusion of his latest loan.

The forwards recent career path has seen him move between Moroccos top flight and Frances professional tiers, giving him experience in contrasting tactical environments. He was on loan at Rodez from August 2024 to June 2025, then at Troyes from August 2025 until the end of June 2026, before his loan ended and he reverted to Union Touarga.
