Egypt’s preparations for their World Cup knockout match were briefly overshadowed after a police officer intervened during a young fan’s attempt to take a selfie with one of the team’s players outside the squad’s hotel in Dallas.

The incident unfolded as the Pharaohs arrived at their accommodation, where supporters had gathered to welcome the team ahead of their Round of 16 fixture against Australia.

Videos shared on social media showed a child approaching in an apparent attempt to take a photograph with a player.

During the interaction, an American police officer on duty intervened and knocked the youngster’s mobile phone to the ground.

The officer’s actions prompted an immediate reaction from members of Egypt’s delegation.

National team coach Hossam Hassan and team director Ibrahim Hassan confronted the officer as tensions rose outside the hotel.

The discussion took place in a heated atmosphere before the situation eventually eased.

Selfie request leads to confrontation

The incident began with what appeared to be a routine request from a young supporter hoping to take a selfie with one of Egypt’s players.

According to videos circulating online, the player was approached by the child before the police officer stepped in, resulting in the youngster’s phone being knocked to the ground.

The exchange quickly drew the attention of Egyptian officials, with Hossam Hassan and Ibrahim Hassan becoming involved as they sought an explanation from the officer.

Despite the tense scenes, the confrontation did not escalate further and calm was eventually restored.

Egyptian FA offers support to young fan

After the incident, Ibrahim Hassan confirmed that the player involved had agreed to pose for a photograph with the child.

In response to the events, the Egyptian Football Association also moved to support the young supporter.

The federation pledged to replace the damaged mobile phone and said both the child and his father would receive tickets to Egypt’s World Cup Round of 16 match against Australia.

The gesture came after the incident attracted widespread attention through videos posted on social media.

Focus returns to World Cup challenge

Although the unexpected scenes briefly disrupted Egypt’s arrival in Dallas, attention has now shifted back to football.

The Pharaohs remain focused on their Round of 16 encounter against Australia as they look to continue their World Cup campaign.

The incident outside the team hotel created an unusual backdrop to the build-up, but Egypt’s immediate priority remains their knockout fixture later in the day.
