Tottenham’s rebuild gathers pace as Eli Junior Kroupi emerges as key striker target

Tottenham Hotspur’s summer of transformation is escalating rapidly, with Bournemouth forward Eli Junior Kroupi emerging as a leading attacking target as Roberto De Zerbi prepares to reshape the squad in his image ahead of a new era in North London.

Spurs are expected to move beyond the £300m spending threshold during a sweeping rebuild, with De Zerbi already overseeing significant defensive and midfield restructuring before turning his attention to a striker capable of elevating a misfiring frontline.

The Italian coach has prioritised efficiency and balance since taking charge, pushing through multiple deals to stabilise the back line and strengthen the engine room as preparation intensifies for a demanding domestic and European campaign.

Defensive rebuild and midfield investment set the tone

De Zerbi has already reinforced his defence with a blend of experience and emerging talent, including free transfers for Marcos Senesi and Andy Robertson, alongside a £52m agreement for Jan Paul van Hecke.

Further forward, Spurs have moved aggressively to secure a £85m deal for Mateus Fernandes, while negotiations continue with Newcastle United over a potential club-record £100m move for Sandro Tonali.

The scale of investment underlines the club’s determination to re-establish itself among Europe’s elite, with De Zerbi’s recruitment strategy focused on technical control and tactical flexibility.

However, despite the heavy spending already committed, the search for a reliable goalscorer remains unresolved.

Kroupi rises as primary attacking target

Attention has now shifted firmly to Kroupi, who has attracted widespread interest across Europe following a standout breakthrough season with AFC Bournemouth.

The 20-year-old forward scored 13 Premier League goals in his debut campaign, quickly establishing himself as one of the division’s most promising young attackers and placing himself firmly on Spurs’ shortlist.

Reports indicate that Chelsea have already made preliminary contact with Bournemouth, while Paris Saint-Germain are also monitoring the situation, creating a highly competitive transfer race.

Bournemouth, however, are under no pressure to sell and are expected to demand around £80m for their rising star, a valuation that could stretch Tottenham’s financial planning despite their ambitious summer budget.

De Zerbi is said to be driving urgency behind the move, with a desire to complete his squad early in pre-season, though internal discussions have also identified Savinho as a potential alternative should negotiations stall.

Pre-season countdown adds pressure to negotiations

Tottenham’s preparations begin shortly with a friendly against MK Dons before an international tour of Australia and New Zealand, which includes a high-profile meeting with Chelsea in Sydney on August 1.

With the transfer window still open and squad planning ongoing, the coming weeks are expected to define the direction of De Zerbi’s project, particularly in attack where the need for a decisive presence remains the final piece of an expensive puzzle.
