Al Masry goal awarded to Salah Mohsen after Smouha scoring dispute

Al Masry’s winning goal against Smouha has officially been credited to forward Salah Mohsen after questions over who should be named as the scorer.

Al Masry secured a 1-0 victory in their Egyptian Premier League opener, with Salah Mohsen’s 76th-minute header deciding a tightly contested match.

The goal was initially the subject of debate because the ball changed direction after striking the right-hand post before settling in the Smouha net. However, the referee’s report and the match observer’s report both recorded Salah Mohsen as the scorer, according to FilGoal.com.

The Al Masry striker produced an assured header in the 76th minute, sending the ball towards goal and eventually beyond the reach of Smouha goalkeeper Ahmed Mheoub. After clipping the right post, the effort crossed the line to give the Port Said side the only goal of the game.

That result gave Al Masry their first win of the new season, while Smouha began their campaign with defeat. The official decision to award the goal to Salah Mohsen settled the main point of contention surrounding the match.

Al Masry will now turn their attention to their second league fixture, against Al Mokawloon Al Arab next Thursday.

Smouha, meanwhile, are preparing to face Asyut Petroleum on Wednesday in the second round of the Egyptian Premier League.
