Egyptian giants Al Ahly have rejected an initial offer from Saudi Arabian club Neom for midfielder Emam Ashour, with the Cairo side demanding a significantly higher fee for one of their most influential players.

According to reports from “Africa Foot”, Neom submitted a first proposal worth a total of $6m during the current transfer window. The offer included a guaranteed $4m fee alongside a further $2m in bonuses and performance-related incentives.

However, Al Ahly turned down the approach, insisting the package did not reflect the player’s technical importance or growing commercial value. The African champions are understood to want $10m before considering a sale, including $8m guaranteed and an additional $2m in bonuses.

Al Ahly reluctant to lose key midfielder

Ashour has become a central figure in the Al Ahly squad since arriving at the club, establishing himself as one of the team’s most dependable performers in midfield.

The 28-year-old has made more than 80 appearances across all competitions, scoring close to 30 goals and contributing over 15 assists while helping the club secure several domestic and continental trophies.

His energy, attacking threat and physical presence have made him one of the first names on the team sheet, with Al Ahly now unwilling to sanction his departure without what they consider suitable financial compensation.

Reports suggest the possibility of Ashour leaving had previously been discussed internally before the club reviewed its position and decided to prioritise keeping the Egypt international.

Saudi interest grows after strong World Cup displays

Ashour’s performances for Egypt at the 2026 FIFA World Cup have also increased interest in the midfielder from clubs across Saudi Arabia and the Gulf region.

The former Zamalek player has emerged as one of the standout figures in the Pharaohs squad during the tournament, with his displays helping to raise his market value considerably.

Negotiations between Neom and Al Ahly are expected to continue over the coming days, with the Saudi side reportedly considering an improved proposal in an attempt to meet the Egyptian club’s valuation.

Meanwhile, Egypt are preparing for their Round of 32 clash against Australia on Friday evening in Dallas, where attention will once again be on Ashour as he looks to continue his impressive World Cup campaign with the Pharaohs.
