Senegal and Spain winger Assane Diao of Serie A side Como is being linked with a move to Portuguese giants Sporting, with the 20-year-old left winger reportedly on the Lisbon club’s radar ahead of the new season.

Diao, valued at €30.00m on Transfermarkt, is the subject of mounting speculation, with the Liga Portugal side monitoring his situation at Como. His contractual status is unclear, with no public information on when his current deal expires, prompting talk that Sporting could move decisively before he risks edging towards free-agent territory in future windows. The reported probability of a deal remains unspecified (“?”), underlining that talks, if any, are at an early stage.

Born in Ndongane on 7 September 2005, the 1.85m attacker has emerged as one of the more intriguing young wide players in Italy. Right-footed but operating mainly from the left, Diao offers the kind of inverted-winger profile that would fit smoothly into Sporting’s possession-heavy, high-pressing game in Liga Portugal.

Diao’s recent displays for Como in Serie A have continued to fuel interest. In his latest outing – a tense league fixture against top-flight opposition in late June 2026 – he featured prominently on the left flank as Como battled through a narrow scoreline, contributing with his work rate and direct running even as the side struggled to find a breakthrough. That performance followed a run of regular minutes which has helped cement his reputation as a high-upside prospect.

Holding dual nationality with Senegal and Spain, and already established at club level with Como 1907, Diao’s next step is likely to be pivotal. A move to Sporting, if it materialises, would offer him European exposure and the chance to elevate both his market value and his standing as one of the most promising wide forwards of his generation.
