Kaizer Chiefs tie down South Africa Under-20 star Teboho Mlangeni

Kaizer Chiefs have secured the future of Teboho Mlangeni after the promising midfielder signed a new contract with the club’s DStv Diski Challenge side.

The agreement was confirmed on Tuesday by P Management Sports Agency, formalising the South Africa Under-20 international’s continued association with the Naturena-based club.

Mlangeni is primarily a defensive midfielder, but his tactical awareness and ability to operate in several positions have made him an important player for the Kaizer Chiefs reserves. The new deal represents the next stage of his development as he works towards establishing himself in senior professional football.

The 20-year-old’s performances at club level earned him recognition with Amajita last year. He played a significant role as South Africa Under-20 won the U20 COSAFA Championship, strengthening his standing among the country’s leading young prospects.

Chiefs set the pace in DDC

Mlangeni has signed at a positive time for the Kaizer Chiefs DDC team, who have made a perfect start to their campaign.

The reserves are top of the league with 12 points from four matches and have won all of their games so far. Their victories include results against Mamelodi Sundowns and Soweto rivals Orlando Pirates, while they also recorded a 4-0 win over Marumo Gallants in their most recent match.

That run has placed the young Amakhosi in a strong position as they aim to reclaim the DDC title. Mlangeni will now be expected to contribute to a side that has combined consistency with a series of high-profile results.

The midfielder can also look to the pathway followed by several recent Kaizer Chiefs academy graduates. Mduduzi Shabalala and Mfundo Vilakazi have progressed from the reserve set-up to become established first-team names, while Kabelo is the latest player to make a similar move.

Mlangeni’s new contract gives him the opportunity to continue his development within the club’s structure while competing for a team that currently leads the DDC standings.
